A Note From Beacon Hill's President, Bill Pritchard

Welcome to the start of the third quarter. It is hard to believe that half of 2016 has passed us by already. For those of us in the insurance business, this has been a busy year so far. The curse of excess capacity continues to lead to some strange underwriting decisions, but overall the market is staying consistent in its desire to make high quality coverage available to our insureds.

For this edition of The Summit we chose to focus on the environmental issues faced by manufacturers. There has long been a tendency to think that only contractors and hazardous facilities have pollution exposures. The last few years have proven this isn’t the case, evidenced by both the growth in environmental claims relating to manufacturers as well as the number of these businesses purchasing coverage.

For agents working to provide their manufacturing clients with the right coverage, it is more important than ever to understand the environmental exposures they face. From their facilities to their products, pollution exposures are clearly present and significant. Agents and brokers need to work hard to see these exposures and pursue the right coverage for them.

Our team has written a range of articles looking at the environmental exposures manufacturers have, the coverages and markets available, and other key concerns. We’re also continuing our tradition of introducing you in a more in depth way to a member of our team.

Thank you for reading The Summit and for providing us with your feedback as we work to continue improving the publication.
