Learn a little bit about Don Bogdanski, Beacon Hill’s Assistant Vice President

Please tell us about your family, interests, and hobbies.

I grew up in Connecticut with a younger brother and was blessed to have two exceptional parents who provided unparalleled support. For the past nineteen years, I have resided in Charlottesville and most recently Richmond, Virginia. Being a big fan of Foo Fighters, I attend their concerts whenever possible. I love spending time with Tucker, my dog. I'm an avid marksman and craft beer enthusiast, diligently working to find the perfect Double India Pale Ale.

What is your professional background and how has it led you to work in environmental insurance?

Early in my insurance career, I worked with fuel oil dealers providing tailored policies for the demands of their pollution exposures. During that time, I saw first hand how insurance policies declined pollution claims and the effects of the business owner not being adequately covered. Later I worked in business development and regional marketing for two fortune 100 insurance companies before returning to the environmental side of the industry.

What is the most important lesson you have learned in your career?

Always be of service and adaptable to change. Today's business landscape changes like the weather—companies merge, and competitors become acquired. Having the ability to adapt and accept change is the defining factor between moving forward or being left behind. Always be of service. We can get caught up in our own business and not be available, but being accessible, responding rapidly, and adding value is paramount for success.

If you had to choose one word to describe the most important motivator to being a leader in your career, what would it be and why? What are you doing specifically at Beacon Hill to help you achieve this?

Specialist. Growing up, my father would always say, “whatever you do, strive to be the best at it.”  As cliché, it may sound, it served me well in sports (specifically competitively skiing), my career, and more importantly every day at Beacon Hill. I've never felt more confident in communicating with our agents that we are the absolute best in the environmental insurance industry.
